Alton Albany Farm is a comfortable and spacious riverside Farmhouse in a picturesque Ayrshire valley. It's a short walk from the pretty conservation village of Barr and on the edges of the Galloway Forest. The Stinchar River runs along the northern edge of the farmhouse grounds whilst the Albany Burn passes by the orchard. Alasdair will make sure there is a log fire burning away and always has a tray of tea or coffee with cakes ready and waiting for your arrival.
Families with children and dogs are always welcome. Kids can hang out in our barn and enjoy our swanky new Kettler Table Tennis table ! Great for Family tournaments.
Plenty of board games to enjoy by the fireside in the lounge. There is even an adjoining riverside field for stick throwing and ballgames when it's free of sheep.
The main B&B area is set in the Georgian side of the house with tall ceilings and plenty of ambient light. The walls are decorated with the garden photographs of Andrea Jones (Alasdair’s wife). The house is set in a footprint of 2 acres and the gardens are an enthusiastic ‘work in progress’!
The breakfast menu offers a traditional Scottish Breakfast with locally sourced sausages and bacon as well as a slice of haggis. Alternatively you can try either kippers (smoked fish) or our Contemporary Irish Breakfast with home made multigrain soda bread, Irish sausages, scrambled eggs and rocket. We are sympathetic to vegetarians, vegans and those with other special dietary requirements and will do our best to offer alternatives if requested.
We have a dining /drawing room (with a log fire) and plenty of books, card and board games to while away the evenings. There’s a large screen for watching DVDs if you prefer. Wifi is free and available throughout the property and we also have an outdoor table tennis table for guests to use in our barn.
There are hill walking, trails and rambling nearby in stunning scenery, mountain biking, cycling, fishing and bird watching all within easy reach. The village has a Post Office and Community Store with excellent hot snacks to go within a short walking distance. There are beaches nearby with views to Ailsa Craig and the Western Isles.
Cyclists are welcome and mountain bikes are also available to rent from the village for just a small donation to the village community fund.
The Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of the best places for stargazing in the world is also close by. Easy access from Glasgow and Prestwick Airports and the Stranraer Ferries.
A bit of peace, quiet and healthy exercise might be just what you need. Get away from it all for a weekend, you might even want to stay longer...
